Unleash Your Life Episode 28, Storytelling

For many of us, negative storytelling is our dominant mental activity. And it can literally rule our lives, driving us into anxiety, worry, and stress. Come along as we explore what storytelling is, how to decrease its negative impact, and even how to make it work for you in positive ways!

Here are this episode’s Action Points:

Partner Up — Find someone who you can team up with to “call each other out” when you see each other storytelling. But take care! It’s easy for this to turn into arguments, so make sure you do it lovingly!

Rubber Band Marker — Choose a “marker” to alert yourself to when you’re storytelling. For instance, a rubber band on your wrist that you snap lightly when you catch yourself. This can “snap” your mind into launching into your touchstone.

Positive Storytelling — Learn to use storytelling positively with tools such as mana gardening.

  1. There is sure a lot to think about with the move to Hawaii coming up! My latest thought is I can’t wait to see everyone running barefoot on a sandy beach! I was walking barefoot back and forth thru pine cones and roughly mowed stubble and across a gravel driveway repeatedly fetching tools and thinking my 64 year old feet just aren’t toughening up in the summer like they did many years ago!
    It’s so easy to get sucked into worrying and crankiness but it’s also good to know that my husband is quite capable of getting my car going again even when a bolt breaks off and takes hours more to replace a muffler than it seemed like it should have. I also watched a new young kitten play with tools and chase toes and hands and sit on our backs until she was so worn out I took some pictures of her sleeping next to us and made up a story about how hard she had to work to keep us working that I shared on fb. It was sweet to see her calmly napping beside us even as we got noisily frustrated with a long complicated job that should have been quick and easy.
    Knowledge can sometimes pull us out of fear. Being present in whatever we’re doing can help. Do your homework as you prepare for Hawaii and be ready to run in the sand and sun and to work hard toward your goals for your time there.

    1. Such great thoughts and great advice, Maude! We can already see some of the challenges before us, and know we’ll all have to be our “best selves” to navigate them effectively!!

      Love,
      Kenton =)
