  1. It was strange hearing you talk about lying in a hammock watching the clouds go by because, as I listened to this, I was lying in my hammock doing exactly that. I couldn’t agree more about falling in love with the planet and Rebecca is so right – people may daydream about other planets without seeing the astounding one we live on. Magic & alchemy are all around us, especially in nature: the seed that becomes a red pepper; the dead branch that turns into topsoil; the tiny embryo that becomes a tiger/squirrel/wild boar. The oceans, the sun, light, snow…all of it is jaw-dropping, to be marveled at, every day! Looking forward to following your new venture in Hawaii.

    1. Cathy, how remarkable!! That must have given you a good laugh =) Your words about seeds and branches are like poetry to us — a reminder of the wonders of this world!!!

      Sending love!

  2. I was in a hurry this morning and tempted to cut this one short – glad I listened to the entire podcast ; I know I will have a better day because of it. Thank you!

  3. Such fun! I’m listening to this episode for the second time today. The first was after taking my daughter to pick up her car and she had shown me a little asparagus plant she had just started this spring and it was starting to branch out. Don’t know where that kid has been all her life. I’ve had a small asparagus patch for years that I always let grow up big and tall and fluffy after a month or two of cutting the new sprouts but she was just in awe of the changes in her little sprout as it was growing and developing. So, after dropping her off and watching her take off I was heading home and taking some back roads and driving a little slower than sometimes wondering if I could spot a clump or two of wild asparagus in the ditches. Spotted one. Checked it out and found several salsify seed heads for my efforts and brought one home. Then I had the fun of showing my granddaughters the giant “dandelion” head. The seven-year-olds eyes got almost as big as that seed head! Such wonder!
I’ve gotten too lazy to sketch the plants around me when I can snap a photo with my cell phone camera but you do see more when you take the time to sketch it.
God! Creation! Science! Can you really look around at all the beauty around us and believe it just happened by chance? There had to be a Master Design! It’s awesome!

    1. Ha! When we were kids we called them “Prehistoric Dandelions”. They are so immense! What fun =) And yes, as we look about us at this wide, wild world, we can only see Divine love!!

  4. I know that you are advocating less screen time but I think everyone would benefit from watching this documentary.

It’s just over 1 hour long and I’m only about 1/4 of the way through but it’s in line with what you are talking about in this podcast.
I promise, after the Stanley Cup Finals are over, I’ll cut back on my screen time 🙂

  5. Funny how your podcasts are so relatable to my life! I was walking along the bike trail listening to this one and came upon a doe in the clearing, not four feet away from me, who just stared at me as I passed by. I even stopped for a moment to look into her eyes before quietly turning and moving on. And this morning, I watched in delight from our computer desk as three young squirrels frolicked on the neighbor’s split rail fence. Just a little while ago I watched a chickadee feeding its young from bits of the suet cakes we put out in one of our feeders. I know deer, squirrels, and feeder birds are pretty ubiquitous in the suburbs, but I try to see the beauty and wonder in the common every day. It makes life so much sweeter with all of our loud, human-made distractions!

    1. I love this Becky! There are so many wonders around us, many of them “ordinary” (in some sense or other), but no less wondrous — and often we don’t take the time to observe and be aware of those wonders. A few times in my life I’ve been reminded of this, like when Rebecca and I took a friend from Ghana out onto a Wisconsin lake in the winter. She stood there with her mouth open, amazed. I am STANDING ON WATER! she said in amazement. I had let frozen lakes become “ordinary” in my mind, when in truth they are wondrous beyond belief!!! =)

Love to you from all of us!
