Unleash Your Life Podcast

Unleash Your Life Episode 1, Believe in the Good Things Coming

Tired of the gloom and doom? Come along with us as we explore the power of positivity!

For your reference, here are the Action Points from this podcast:

Random Acts of Kindness Start looking for places where you can step into someone’s life and bring a smile. Then pluck up the courage and do it!!

Gratitude Practice — Start a regular practice, just 5 minutes once a day. Pick a time that works for you (first thing in the morning, as you have your cup of tea, when you are doing the dishes after dinner, etc.), and really FEEL gratitude for one or two things in your life. It could be a person, your home, your work, your dog . . .  whatever! Amp it up by extending the duration or frequency (or both!). Or make it a practice with family or friends. Eventually, gratitude becomes a habit.

Moderate Media Intake — Limit (or just stop!) the intake of “bad news” media. Consider switching to a “good news” station like goodnewsnetwork.org.

Choose a Cause — Choose one “cause” you want to devote some energy to. It can be as simple as picking up litter along your street or as in-depth as moving to another country to provide aid to those who need it. Educate yourself on the problem, brainstorm solutions, and apply yourself to them.

  1. Thanks and Congratulations with your new podcast! This must have taken some efforts and preparation. I agree that positive attitude does make a huge difference. Also one of the biggest human powers is cooperative actions and ideas (https://youtu.be/nzj7Wg4DAbs). One of such positive changes for me was watching Avatar movie. Also practicing yoga and slowing down.

    1. Volodymyr,Avatar came out a time when Rebecca and I weren’t watching any movies. A friend of ours said, “You two have GOT to see this!” We broke our rule, and were so glad we did. What a powerful movie! And we are equally in love with yoga and going slowly =)

Very excited to check out that link, too! We have guest until tomorrow, but after that we’ll take a look!

      Love,
      K and R =)

      1. My girlfriend suggested that acts of kindness don’t need to be explicit. Just
trying understanding another person is a good effort.

        1. She is SO right! Real listening and real understanding is so precious — if we can give that gift to someone, it is among the greatest kindnesses we can bestow. =)

  2. Doing positive things does bring hope. I wish our news networks published some of the good things that occur every day. To get through the political climate, I have been writing postcards to voters ( PostcardsToVoters.org). We hand write positive, upbeat reminders to encourage folks to vote. In my town, shootings are up about 30% this past year. Scary. I volunteer with an organization that pushes forward intelligent gun legislation. I do binge on the political news cycle. I have to remember to balance it out with gratitude and spreading some joy.

    1. You are DOING IT! You’re harnessing action toward things that make a difference. Way to go being not only positive, but combining that with action!

  3. Wow! What a terrific first podcast. Thank you Rebecca and Kenton for sharing this platform with us. I will be looking forward to these podcasts weekly. I chose years ago to be positive. I too was sucked in by this fear mongering media, and Over time it really does physically and mentally drain you. I just decided to stop watching the news, or at least cut down 95%. I remember as a young boy growing up in the 70’s when the scientists then said we were heading for an ice age, and I remember being so frightened. I thought the world was going to end. Here we are 40 years later and now we are being told that we only have 10 or 12 years before the world ends. I am definitely not ignoring the data, but if we continue to be paralyzed by fear we won’t be able to move forward and come up with positive solutions. This is why I love you guys! You both offer so many positive solutions and exercises for us to put into action. I want to wish the Whitman family a Happy and healthy new year!!

    1. Anthony, what a great choice, to be positive! There are always voices telling us it’s all going to fall apart. While we agree that we shouldn’t ignore data, it’s also part of the human condition that if we don’t have hope, we often just give up. The ten to twelve years they’ve projected may or may not turn out to be true, but the fear is enough to make a lot of people just retreat into apathy. I just read this today, which gave a much more positive perspective on our relationship with the environment, and shows how even one person (even a child!) can act to make real differences.

      1. Wow! Thank you so much for sharing that. You just made my night Kenton! Now that is good news. People really are making a difference. My wife and I have been seeing it more and more of late. Restaurants are using no plastics and switching to paper straws. We also stopped using paper bags years ago and always bring reusable bags with us. Thanks again for recommending the good news network!
        Love,
        Anthony

        1. So cool that you’ve been seeing this yourself! And THANK YOU for using those reusable bags. That makes a HUGE difference!

  4. I subscribe to both of your YouTube channels and found the link to today’s podcast very early to use. Once I got to the podcast page, all I had to do is press play and there you were! Easy, peasy. Didn’t have to select a player or anything. For the first few videos, you were might put a short video on YouTube announcing each new podcast, it might get traffic going. As always love 💜 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵.

    1. Suzi, we’re so glad i twas easy peasy!!!! Such a joy to see you here as well — I think you know how much we value your lovely presence in all we do!!

      Love,
      K and R =)

  5. I was so excited to hear you’d be starting to podcast! I enjoy your YouTube videos, but find I don’t always have time to sit and watch. I can listen to a podcast while doing my walks around the neighborhood, which works out perfectly. I loved this first podcast and was familiar with what you both talked about since it follows many of the things my teachers address in yoga classes. Have you read “Factfulness: Ten Reasons We’re Wrong About the World and Why Things Are Better Than You Think” by Hans Rosling? This was a book that changed my mindset last year and got me thinking more positively about the world in general. Thanks for sharing your wisdom, insights, and techniques to help with a shift in consciousness in this world. I think people are hungry for positivity and compassion. I’m sharing your videos and podcasts with my teenaged son who often struggles with despair and finding his place in challenging times in this world.

    1. Becky, I just wrote to you about your decision to become our patron. Now I see this comment! Wow! We’re so honored that you’re sharing our work with your teenage son. I’ve known many times in my life where I’ve felt a despair, and it’s so heartening to know that you are there giving him love, inspiration, and support. We also haven’t heard of that book, but we will be checking it out!!

      Love,
      Kenton =)
