Our mind has a desire to pretend things are always the same, even though everything is always changing. If we can not only accept change, but embrace it, our life takes a wondrous turn into curiosity and amazement!
Here are this episode’s Action Points:
Sit Spot — Find a place to sit (under a tree, on a park bench, even at your window), and spend a few minutes each day just Being and observing. Notice how the mind wants to focus on what feels “the same”, but instead, turn your mind to noticing what has changed since your last observation.
Challenge One Ingrained Belief — A tough one! Take one of your ingrained beliefs (it might be political, religious, a belief about another person, or a belief about yourself), and examine it from different angles. Go online and research different perspectives, or listen to other people who hold different perspectives. Notice how your mind wants to cling to your belief and discount all other perspectives, but instead open yourself to new possibilities.
3 Minutes of Connection — When you get home from work, school, a walk, or whatever, take three minutes to just go and talk and connect with your family or friends. Resist that urge to go directly to checking emails or cooking or looking at your phone. Instead, engage with people for at least that three minutes. An alternate way to practice this is to think of one person in your life who you will see today, and imagine you haven’t seen them in six months (even if you saw them yesterday). Approach them with that attitude of curiosity that you’d have if they really had been gone that long.
