In the northwoods of Wisconsin, our Forest Monk program gave people a once-in-a-lifetime chance to challenge themselves and reconnect with nature and Self.
Now ReWild University is launching a new program. Our Weekly Peaceful Warrior Martial Way program is for adults and teens and meets once per week near Viroqua, Wisconsin, for 6 months from spring to autumn, and is held in a small-group format. We train outdoors, and include nature skills in our training.
We’ll be accepting groups of 4-8 participants. We have one adult class open, and one teen program open this summer.
The Peaceful Warrior Martial Way is a path for those who wish to be of service to the world. Through a holistic range of skills, you will forge yourself into someone who radiates peace, who can guide people through life troubles or world catastrophes, and who can meet the adventures of everyday life with compassion, curiosity, wonder.
This is about quiet power – not the kind of power that needs to outwardly boast or belittle others, but the kind of power that makes others feel that you are a safe harbor in any storm.
The Peaceful Warrior develops skills in three areas:
- Martial Arts
- Awareness
- Mental Peace
Martial Arts – As a Peaceful Warrior, we forge our bodies through fitness and training to be able to deal with conflict situations as peacefully as possible. While we will learn striking skills, it is noted that striking skills only hold potential to cease conflict via inflicting damage. Our main focus is on grappling skills that derive from Brazilian and Japanese Jujitsu, Chin Na, Catch Wrestling, and more. Conceptually, our aim is to develop a skillset that allows us to deal with violent situations using submissions and holds that restrain an assailant and give us time to talk with them, but that also can be used to take more decisive actions if necessary.
Awareness – Awareness of our environment and awareness of our mental/emotional state combines to bring us into deeper connection with the world and our selves. We will learn tools to bring awareness to our mental and emotional states, as well as the resonance of the people and the environment around us.
Mental Peace – Without a peaceful mind, we cannot be a force for peace. Indeed, if our mind is in turmoil, we actually contribute to the conflict of the world. This is the greatest challenge and the deepest focus of Peaceful Warrior Martial training.
Is the Peaceful Warrior Martial Way for you?
–You have a deep desire to do good in the world, and you believe that you can best do that through developing your own personal power and using that power in the service of others. To develop that power, you are willing to challenge yourself on all levels – mentally, emotionally, and physically.
–When you consider training, you are non-competitive. You want to learn and help others learn, rather than attempt to make yourself look better or more advanced than others.
–You don’t have to be an athlete, but are in basic good health and are striving to be healthier. You aren’t addicted to alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, or recreational drugs.
— You are ready to transform your life in powerful and positive ways.
–You have a decent amount of emotional resilience, and are wanting to develop more.
–You thrive learning in a small group setting and will dedicate yourself to training in your everyday life. Peaceful Warrior training isn’t just about official training sessions – it’s about integrating this training into every moment of your life.
–You are ready and willing to train outdoors, in forests and fields.
Local Group Training Structure
Our local groups meet once per week, training for 3-4 hours for each session. There will also be longer day sessions, and some outdoors overnight challenges. Each session will cover a variety of skills that will change throughout the season, from basic wilderness skills to meditation to emotional resilience. The core of our program will be the submission-oriented martial arts style called Peaceful Warrior Martial Way.
Local group training tuition for the adult class is $350 per month or $2,100 for the 6 month’s training. The teen class is $250 a month or $1,500 for the 6 month’s training. Additional private training will be available at the tuition rate of $50 an hour. We also consider custom groups, such as a family who wants to learn together.
Classes will start in May and conclude in October, with additional training offered for those who want to deepen their skills or take on winter training.

About Kenton
Kenton started his martial arts journey at age nine at Catura’s Martial Arts in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Since then martial arts has become a passion, and he’s trained in a wide variety of styles, from Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu to Shotokan Karate to Muay Thai. His deepest passion is for grappling styles such as Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. As a life explorer, he and his wife Rebecca have delved deeply into non-dualism, meditative practices, breathwork, and developing inner awareness. For over a decade he ran the Metamorphosis program and the Forest Monk program at ReWild University, where he guided participants through 4-11 months of living in the wilderness and learning meditation, nature skills, martial arts, primal fitness, and inner peace. The Peaceful Warrior Martial Way is the next evolution of his teachings.
