In a world where we’re habitually plugged in, we can rediscover what it means to be alive when we step away from our tech and into nature. This summer, Kenton is offering three different 5-day Immersions into Enchantment, Martial Arts, and Mindfulness. Dates are to be determined based on participants’ schedules.
Rediscover Enchantment
A five-day immersion into wonder, curiosity, and deep nature awareness.
There was a time when we all experienced the world as alive with mystery and meaning.
Our ancestors walked through forests and fields not as observers, but as participants in a living story — a story where the wind spoke, animals carried messages, and the world shimmered with quiet magic.
In this five-day immersion we rediscover that way of seeing.
In this immersive retreat we step beyond ordinary nature walks and into a deeper relationship with the living landscape. Through observation practices, storytelling, wandering, and playful exploration, we’ll rediscover the ancient human ability to experience the world as vibrant, meaningful, and alive. We’ll gently peel back the layers of modern numbness that keep us from experiencing the world’s inherent wonder. As your senses awaken, ordinary places begin to feel extraordinary again.
This immersion is not about pretending the world is enchanted.
It is about remembering that it already is.
Strength Without Aggression
A five-day immersion into awareness-based martial practice.
What if martial skill didn’t come from fighting harder—but from moving with calm awareness?
In this five-day immersion you’ll explore the foundations of the Peaceful Warrior Martial Way, a practice that blends grappling-based physical skills with deep inner awareness. Through partner exercises, movement training, and mindful practice, you’ll learn how to respond to conflict without panic, tension, or unnecessary force.
The Peaceful Warrior Martial Way is Kenton’s unique martial system rooted in awareness, connection, and appropriate response rather than aggression. Through carefully guided practice, you’ll begin to change the way you inhabit your body and move through space, as well as how you respond to challenging situations.
Together we’ll explore the physical foundations of the martial skills of grappling, joint locks, holds, and chokes—learned in a safe and supportive environment. These techniques are not about domination, but about developing the ability to respond to a situation with exactly the amount of force that is needed… and no more
Equally important is the inner training. We’ll cultivate wu wei, the Taoist principle of “doing without forcing,” along with open awareness, relaxed attention, and the ability to remain grounded when tension arises.
Whether you’re brand new to martial arts or an experienced practitioner seeking a more integrated path, this immersion offers the beginning of something rare — strength that grows from presence rather than aggression.
The Art of Mindful Being
Five days to reset your mind, senses, and nervous system in nature.
What happens when we stop trying to improve our lives and simply experience them?
During this five-day immersion we step out of the noise and back into a slower rhythm –one guided by wind in the trees, bird calls at dawn, and the quiet intelligence of the natural world. Meals are simple. Time stretches open. Conversation becomes more meaningful. Silence becomes nourishing rather than uncomfortable. With technology set aside and our days structured around simple living, the nervous system begins to soften and the mind gradually clears. Through practices like forest bathing, sit spots, nature observation, and meditation, you’ll rediscover the powerful simplicity of presence. You’ll learn to observe deeply, listen with your whole body, and experience the world without the constant urge to change or control it.
As technology fades into the background and the senses awaken, many people experience something surprising — clarity, calm, and a renewed sense of what truly matters.
This retreat requires no previous experience — only curiosity and a willingness to slow down enough to notice the world again.
Our Immersion experiences are held outdoors at Goldenwood, a family community in rural Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA. Each day we’ll begin mid-morning with three hours of activities and learning, then pause for a break before an afternoon session which lasts for 1-3 more hours. In the evening, we’ll cook a communal meal together. There is ample time for meditation, solitude, community (if your Immersion includes other participants), and stillness in nature.
These Immersions are tech-free, which means no phones. We will set up a contact (a friend or relative of yours) who can get in touch with us if you need to be informed of family emergencies, etc.
All of our five-day Immersions are spent outdoors. You are responsible for bringing your own camping gear. Each day, we’ll cook and share a mostly vegetarian but sometimes omnivorous meal together. However, participants should bring their own snacks, MREs, or other foods for breakfast and lunch. A complete to-bring list will be provided when you register.
Tuition is $1,100 for each 5-day retreat, which includes 4-6 hours of instruction a day, camping, and 1 meal per day. We ask for a 20% non-refundable deposit to hold your place.
