Especially for families, our Family Forest Retreats are held at various locations in northern Wisconsin, giving you choices from rustic to luxurious. Whether you choose to camp in the woods and cook over a campfire or stay in a spacious cabin with a full-service kitchen, you’ll also get to choose from a “menu” of rewilding experiences for kids and adults alike.
Rewilding experiences are each 3 hours long, and are led by Dustin, Kenton, or Rebecca. Often, we’ll bring our own families along for the adventure if that sounds fun for you!
We’ll learn the basics of identifying different common species’ tracks, and see if we can track an animal in the woods!
Learn to move your body like a wild thing! We’ll practice some different animal-inspired movements, and then use those movements to play games in the forest!
Our ramble through the woodlands will find us learning to identify different wild edibles. If we discover enough, we can bring them back for a wild meal!
We’ll learn how to use knives safely, and learn basic notches and cuts that open up a world of bushcrafting possibilities
We’ll learn the reverse wrap method of making cordage, and make a bracelet and a necklace using forest-found treasures.
We’ll pick a direction and walk! What we’ll find, nobody knows, but as we begin looking under logs, exploring boulders, or peeking in tree holes, we’re sure to discover wonders ranging from wild edibles to a porcupine’s den!
First, we’ll venture out to find flowers, plants, or berries to make dyes or paints. Then, with paper and a stick, we’ll paint our Picassos!
Depending on your skill level, we’ll focus on anything from fire basics to Jedi-level fire challenges.
Details and Tuition
Family weekends are two nights long, from Friday to Sunday or Saturday to Monday. Weekdays are also available if you have a non-traditional work schedule. You’ll have the majority of the time to yourselves for your own reflection and fun, but choosing a few rewilding experiences can make the weekend highly educational.
The base tuition is $199 for the whole family, with additional lodging costs if you want to upgrade from the basic camping option. Rewilding experiences are $85 for each 3-hour adventure.
